Congratulations to Shani Dar, this year’s recipient of the Award for Environmental Leadership. A 2023 graduate of Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School, Shani plans to attend Brandeis University in the fall where she will study environmental issues and wants to learn ways of preserving organisms and helping them adapt to the effects of climate change. She led and participated in initiatives to build a more sustainable school culture including coordinating an educational volunteer harvesting and sustainable farming day at Audubon’s Drumlin Farm, working with Sustainable Sudbury members to learn about the hazards of gas-powered leaf blowers, and speaking as a member of the LSRHS Environmental Club at a televised Sudbury Town Hall Meeting to advocate for the Sustainability Coordinator position.
The Sustainable Sudbury Award for Environmental Leadership was established in 2015 and is awarded annually to a graduating Lincoln-Sudbury senior in recognition of demonstrating, through academic and extracurricular interests and activities, commitment to Sustainable Sudbury’s mission of raising environmental awareness and sponsoring sustainable, earth-friendly activities in our community and beyond. Previous recipients include Emilia Arrabo, Grace Caltabiano, Katie Semple, Ceci Barnes, Sydney Merrill, Nicole Garay, Allison Densel, and Ava Guleserian.
