2016 Award For Environmental Leadership

Katie Semple receives award from Richard Vanderslice on behalf of members of the organization.

Congratulations to Katie Semple, this year’s recipient of the second annual Award for Environmental Leadership. Katie received the award in recognition of her embodiment of Sustainable Sudbury’s mission to sponsor sustainable, earth-friendly activities in our community and beyond and joins last year’s inaugural winner, Grace Caltabiano.

Katie, a 2016 graduate of Lincoln Sudbury Regional High School, is passionate about delving into environmental issues and solutions, from solar panels to wind farms. Her curiosity about the promise of renewable energy was sparked by her memories of crossing the Cape Cod Canal as a child and seeing the wind turbines. In her high school environmental biology class she worked on a group project to create a comprehensive renewable energy plan to bolster the State renewable plan already in place, including how to incentivize solar panels while taking into account low income families whose rates might be affected by solar tariffs. A National Merit Commended Student, Katie will attend Tufts University to study environmental engineering.
